Elderberry Strainer Bags, Medium - 2 Bags
These medium elderberry strainer bags, 7 x 8 inches, will help you to strain off the skins and seeds of elderberries after cooking. *Previous Customers - this is a size reduction from previous bags of 12 x 8.5 inch bags. These are much easier to work with. Originally designed to make almond milk, these bags are made of food grade nylon and the mesh is fine enough to easily filter off elderberry pulp for ultra smooth elderberry syrup and wines. Reusable, eco-friendly, and a practical alternative to a cheesecloth or bowl strainer. Strong enough to squeeze even more juice out of your berries. I have gotten up to 1/4 cup more juice per pound using these bags compared to my bowl strainer. Each bag measures approx 7 x 8 inches and is a good size for 1/2 pound to 1 pound of (dried) elderberries. You get 2 bags with one order.
CARE of Elderberry Strainer Bag
Clean the bag before first using it. Wash with mild soap. This removes dirt, dust, and germs that could have been picked from shipping. Turn the bag inside out and rinse well in running water. Hang dry. Extremely hot (boiling) elderberries may melt the nylon mesh bag. Melting point is 275 F. Bag is not to be used for boiling elderberries inside.
How to use: After cooking elderberries, LET COOL before pouring liquid and pulp through the bag. Set the bag on the bottom of the bowl or pan & while securely hold a corner, pour pulp and liquid through. Lift the bag up and while holding onto the top, twist the bottom and squeeze.
To Clean: Turn the bag inside out and check for particles remaining in the seams and corners. Use running water with high pressure over the bag. Run the water until all the particles are washed off. Apply only mild soap. A very strong scented soap or detergent may leave smells on your bag. The bags may be soaked in a solution of vinegar and water or soaked in an alkaline mixture of water and salt. Dissolve salt in hot water and soak the bag for at least 30 minutes. Rinse bag thoroughly to remove vinegar or salt bleaching should be done only when absolutely necessary as bleach will slightly weaken the fiber of the bag.
